Consumer intelligence for candle makers

Know how your candles are actually lived with.

Burn Time is the app candle owners use to catalogue what they own, rate it, and record every burn. Burn Time for Brands turns that evidence — shared by owners who opted in — into three kinds of answer about your products: what people own, what they think, and how they use it.

Partner accounts are issued per brand. There is no public sign-up, and no producer can read another brand's data.

What the evidence is

Source
The Burn Time consumer app, where owners add, rate and burn their own candles.
Population
Owners whose current analytics choice is a grant. Nobody else is counted.
Unit of truth
Completed, observed burn sessions — not plans, not expected burn capacity.
Scope
Products verified as yours, resolved to the exact variant.

The problem

Sell-through tells you what left the shelf. Nothing tells you what happened next.

  • A sale is one event

A candle is dozens of hours of use spread over months. Everything that decides whether someone buys it again happens after the transaction you can see.

  • Reviews arrive too early, from too few

Star ratings come from the small share of buyers who write them, often before the candle is half burnt — and they rarely say which variant, size or scent was involved.

  • Your catalogue collapses into one line

Retail and marketplace reporting flattens variants into a brand name, so the format that earns the repeat burn is invisible next to the one that merely sells once.

Burn Time closes that gap with first-party evidence from people who chose to share it, tied to the exact product they own.

The value proposition

Three pillars, three decisions.

Each pillar answers one producer question, and each question exists because it changes something you do next — what you make, how you describe it, and what you fix.

  1. Collection intelligence

What do participating consumers own, and which products appear together?

    What you read

    • Units, unique products and unique owners counted separately, never conflated.
    • Which of your product brands and scents appear in participating collections, with a candle count each.
    • Registry coverage: how much of your catalogue is resolved, and what is still unmatched.

    Decision it supports

    Assortment, product discovery, potential cross-sell.

  2. Experience intelligence

Which products do consumers rate highly, and why?

    What you read

    • Consumer rating consensus with the reviewer and rating counts behind it — one voice per owner per product.
    • Human reviews only. A model's score and a manufacturer's claim are stored separately and can never be averaged in.
    • An explicit insufficient-data state instead of a confident-looking average over two people.

    Decision it supports

    Product improvements, positioning, quality investigation.

  3. Usage intelligence

Which candles become part of a routine, and when and how are they used?

    What you read

    • Completed sessions, total recorded burn time, average session duration and active owners.
    • Your products ranked by recorded burn time — the ones people return to, not the ones that merely shipped.
    • Planned schedules kept in their own section, labelled as intentions, so a plan is never counted as a burn.

    Decision it supports

Product formats, use occasions, lifecycle messaging.

How it works

From a candle on a shelf to a figure you can act on.

  1. Owners catalogue

People add their candles in the Burn Time app by scanning, browsing the catalogue, or entering them by hand. An unrecognised candle stays usable, flagged rather than discarded.

  2. Use is recorded

Burns are captured as sessions — logged by the owner or recorded automatically — each with a start, an end, an observed duration and how it was captured.

  3. Identity is resolved

A canonical registry links each owned candle to a real product and variant, so two sizes of one scent never merge. Ambiguous matches are quarantined, not guessed.

  4. You read your brand

Your dashboard aggregates only your verified products, only for consenting owners, with the last successful sync shown on the page.

Evidence you can defend

Rules this dashboard keeps, so your numbers survive scrutiny.

  • Opt-in, or absent

Only owners whose current analytics choice is a grant are counted. A withdrawal removes them from every figure immediately, and consent is recorded as append-only evidence.

  • Aggregates only

There is no per-owner page, no per-candle page and no owner export. Producer surfaces carry no names, no email addresses and no account identifiers.

  • Observed, not assumed

Figures come from completed sessions. Inactivity is never read as a finished candle, and recorded burn time is never presented as wax consumed.

  • Three kinds of statement, kept apart

A person's review, a model's prediction and a manufacturer's claim live in separate records with their own provenance. No query can average across them.

  • Your products only

Every query is scoped to your brand. No competitor's records are readable here, and nothing in the dashboard is offered as a market-share claim.

  • Sample sizes on the page

Counts, reviewer numbers and source freshness sit beside each figure, with an explicit insufficient-data state where the evidence is thin.

Definitions

What each figure counts — and what it does not.

These are the definitions the dashboard is built on. They are deliberately narrow: a figure that overstates its own reach is worse than no figure.

Metric definitions used across every pillar
Figure What it counts What it is not
Participating owners Unique consenting owners represented in the stated dataset. Your customer base.
Active owners Consenting owners with a qualifying session in the window shown. Everyone who owns the product.
Recorded burn time Duration of qualifying completed sessions, with flame and warming labelled separately. Wax consumed, or burn life remaining.
Average session Qualifying duration divided by qualifying completed sessions. A burn-hour claim for the product.
Repeat use Owners with two or more qualifying sessions, against a stated window. Repurchase.
Product use share A product's share of recorded use within the participating population shown. Market share.

Honest scope

What is in the dashboard today, and what is next.

Burn Time for Brands is a pre-release surface built feature by feature. This is where it stands, so nothing on a demo surprises you.
